Denis Jelcic is a sports administrator, business owner, and community supporter with a professional career spanning over 30 years. As General Manager of the Inline Skating Club of America, he has played a central role in the development of one of New Jersey’s top indoor sports venues. Alongside this, his work with the New York Rangers Fan Engagement Department and Madison Square Garden reflects a consistent commitment to sports, service, and public interaction.
Denis's experience combines practical leadership with a detailed understanding of recreation programs, league operations, and player growth. His continued involvement in officiating, coaching, and event coordination highlights a focus not only on structure but on long-term community impact. Whether in a local gym or a central arena, he has kept his approach grounded in teamwork and responsibility.
A Solid Foundation Built on Hard Work and Dedication
The values that shaped his career began forming early. At 14, Denis started working both part-time and full-time jobs. These early responsibilities taught him the importance of effort and discipline. At the same time, he began volunteering in sports, taking on coaching duties, officiating games, and helping organize youth programs.
These early experiences provided lessons in leadership and teamwork. From helping run a tournament to standing behind home plate as an official, he saw that every task contributed to something larger. After college, when offered a chance to help operate a recreation center, he accepted without hesitation. That step marked the beginning of a lasting career in sports and community-based leadership.
Shaping Leadership Through Academic Growth
Denis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City in June 1998. He later pursued additional coursework in Education Administration at Montclair State University.
This combination of education supported the development of his leadership skills. It also helped prepare him for the challenges of managing sports programs, coordinating staff, and planning organizations within both private and public settings.
A Career Rooted in Sport, Service, and Strategy
From 1990 to 2000, Denis worked at Cliffside Park Recreation in New Jersey, serving in several capacities, including coach, official, and program director. During this period, he founded an inline roller hockey program, developed its structure, organized daily operations, and oversaw the scheduling of games and events.
He also coached and officiated in various sports, including basketball, soccer, baseball, and roller hockey. While on the court or field, he offered mentorship to young players and helped train new officials, creating a cycle of support for the local sports system.
Since 1999, Denis has served as General Manager of the Inline Skating Club of America in North Arlington, New Jersey. His work there has included managing daily operations, launching new sports programs, and refining systems for league scheduling and event coordination. The facility has remained a reliable and well-used community resource under his direction.
Between 2014 and 2020, Denis worked with Lyndhurst Public Schools as an Assistant to the Athletic Director. His responsibilities included handling uniforms, planning school events, managing budgets, and building connections with alums. He also contributed to fundraising projects and maintained steady communication with athletic stakeholders across the district.
In 2020, he joined Madison Square Garden as a part-time uniform distribution attendant and hockey program instructor. In this role, he managed inventory and supported event logistics while applying his knowledge of hockey to fan-centered programming.
Passion and Opportunity Meet on Sports’ Biggest Stage
When operations at the Inline Skating Club of America were paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he shifted focus to his role at Madison Square Garden. Starting with uniform distribution, he worked to keep systems running smoothly and supported internal coordination efforts.
Soon after, Denis saw an opportunity to join the New York Rangers Fan Engagement Department as a part-time hockey instructor. He applied for and accepted the role, bringing his experience and commitment into a space designed to inspire fans and young players. For him, the position represented not just professional growth but a meaningful way to stay involved in the game he’s long supported.
Three Decades of Dedication and Business Longevity
Among his accomplishments, one of the most meaningful is the long-term success of the facility he co-owns in North Jersey. Since 1995, it has offered space for leagues, events, and sports programming. Its continued operation for nearly 30 years speaks to the planning, dedication, and leadership that has enabled it to run consistently.
A Lifelong Commitment to Community and Sport
Denis's connection to athletics has remained steady since his teenage years. At 15, he began helping with coaching, officiating, and managing local programs. He has remained active in town leagues and continues to support various sports, including basketball, soccer, and softball. His long-standing commitment has helped keep local sports programs accessible and dependable.
Denis's approach has always emphasized consistency, reliability, and mentorship. Whether it’s through officiating high school events, organizing youth leagues, or connecting with fans at a professional level, his work reflects a grounded dedication to service.
Denis Jelcic has built a career defined by humility, purpose, and a strong sense of responsibility. Through his various roles in both local and professional settings, he has demonstrated a profound respect for the value of sports in community life.
